Ingredients

  • 500 gm Shelled prawns
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 25gm Ginger, grated
  • 2 Garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3 tblsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 Onions, finely chopped
  • 100 gm Tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 3 tblsp White wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp Cornflour
  • Salt

Method

Crush the cumin seeds with the ginger, garlic and mustard seeds.

Heat the oil and fry the onions until golden. Add the tomato, chili powder, turmeric and 2 tblsp water and cook, mashing the tomato to make a thick paste. Add the crushed spices and continue to cook for 5 minutes.

Add the prawns and 4 tblsp water and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour on the vinegar and mix. The sauce may be thickened at this point with the cornflour (mixed with a little water). Add salt to taste.
